Uniform Update

I'm sure quite a few of you have ordered the new uniforms. Obviously, Official Sports is having a tough time getting them out the door. In fact, there was even a notice on their website pointing out that shipments of the new uniforms would be delayed. Good for them for being up front and honest!
I just thought I'd put this short post up to give readers an idea of the delay. I ordered 2 new jerseys on December 1, 2007. Today is February 16, 2008. Yesterday, I received a call that 1 of the jerseys was shipping and the other was back ordered. So, by my math, that says the current back log is at least 10 weeks. Hopefully, things will pick up as more of the jerseys are manufactured.

First, let me say that I recently found your blog and have enjoyed reading through the archive. I think we have had similar experience within USSF.

About the new green uniform, and the new uniforms in general. One, in my area (Michigan) it is rare to find other referees who have the blue jersey, so I am not in any hurry to get the green one. You can’t wear it unless your partners have the same color. Maybe people in your area are better about spending their money to get all the colors, but at most people here have gold, black, and red.

Since the old style is still perfectly acceptable, I am not in any hurry to get the new jerseys. In reading through your blog, I noticed that you have bought Score jerseys. I have one, and thought it was not as well designed/crafted as the OSI. I have both entry level OSI and pro level OSI, and even the entry level OSI was much better than my Score.

Keep up the good work. I enjoy your long posts.

Thanks for the comment.
I agree with you on several points. I saw the green uniform at my son's indoor game. It looks nice, but it's unlikely I'll need it for at least a year, if ever.
I agree that the OSI jerseys are the best quality, I'm just saying the Score stuff is acceptable quality for about half the price. Let's face it, you only wear it for a few hours a weekend. They last pretty long!

Wow, love the posts! I have been refereeing for 1 1/2 years and love it! I have coached for 10 years, and played for less than a year. I always enjoy seeing someone else that shares a passion for the game. As far as the uniforms go, I have 3 referees in my family and 1 more joining us this summer. I have 2 blue and red, 1 black, and 4 yellows. I can't wait to add green. I will just get 1 for now. We referee U12 and U10 games as a single referee, so we have plenty opportunities to choose what color and I like the green. I personally don't like the new striping, but no body asked my opinion! I have built up my sock inventory, but can always add more. I can't stand to have wet feet! I was amazed to read that you only work 2-3 games in a weekend. I usually get talked into 6! We are having a real shortage of referees, so we all try to do our part and cover all of the games. Thanks for the posts. Keep them coming!
